Criticism rains down on Meghan Markle for her 'superstar' attitude at Wimbledon
Apparently the Duchess of Sussex asked her bodyguards to prevent her fans from photographing her
When Meghan Markle decided to marry Prince Harry, the first thing she had to be clear about was that your private life would be reduced in an abysmal way to become the target of countless covers, headlines and paparazzi photos. And although this type of "consequences" have always existed, the truth is that, today, with the overwhelming presence of social networks, it is very easy to forget which is the line that separates the public from the private. And an example of this is what happened last weekend, when the Duchess of Sussex came to see her friend Serena Williams play at the Wimbledon tournament. Apparently, and as The Daily Mail has published, Meghan's bodyguards asked the assistants - approximately 12,000 approximately, to refrain from taking photos of the Duchess.
A man sitting two rows ahead who was trying to make a sign was admonished by one of the security men who addressed him saying: "Aren't you taking a picture of the Duchess? She is here privately." This gesture has not left the British indifferent, who have criticized Meghan's attitude, which they have classified as a "super star" and a "diva". In addition to this, no one has been overlooked that around the Duchess in order to maintain her "privacy" there were more than forty empty seats in what is considered one of the most demanded tournaments in the world.
But this spectator who received the warning from the security team was not the only one reprimanded. Close to where all this was happening was former BBC journalist Sally Jones, who has also been totally outraged by the Duchess's attitude. "She looked around to see who was watching her (...) Harry and Meghan behave more like two celebrities than members of the royal family. There were more than 200 photographers taking photos, but the bodyguards saw me reprimand"
Shortly after this comment it was Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan who declared: "A private outing to Wimbledon? That's ridiculous. They are not private people, they are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. If you want to be two private characters, returning to the United States and living like two normal citizens. ”A sentiment also shared by Rebecca English, a journalist for the" Daily Mail "and an expert on royalty:" It's ridiculous not to expect attendees to take some pictures during such a public event, without being intrusive. (...) The royal family occupies a very privileged position. This does not mean that they are not entitled to a private life. But not in a world sporting event ”.
But what really is this controversial attitude of Meghan? Although Kensington Palace has declined to comment, a source close to the royal family stated in the British media: "It is not uncommon for the security corps accompanying members of the Royal Family to ask people that they do not take photos so that they can interact with those people instead of doing it through a mobile phone camera "
