Here's Everything We Know About New NCT 2020 Members Shotaro And Sungchan
It's only been a few days since SM Entertainment announced that two new members would be joining NCT for their megaproject NCT 2020, but fans are already falling in love with the charming newbies. Here's everything we know about new members Shotaro and Sungchan.
Shotaro (full name Osaki Shotaro) was born on November 25, 2000, in the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa, Kantō. At 19 years old (21 according to the Korean age system), he is the fourth youngest member of NCT overall.
Shotaro's hobbies include basketball and watching mukbang videos, and he considers dance to be his specialty. As such, fans suspect that he may debut on the group's dance line.
His favorite foods are two of the most popular in Japan: sushi and dango, a type of mochi-type dumpling.
Before Shotaro came to NCT, he was an avid TikTok user. He uploaded numerous dance videos to his account, @shotaro_osaki, including one in which he danced to NCT 127's “Kick It”.
Since his TikTok account was recently closed, some NCTzens suspect that he was recruited for SM Entertainment only a few months ago.
Meanwhile, Sungchan (full name Jung Sungchan) was born on September 13, 2001 in Seoul, South Korea. At 19 years old (20 according to the Korean age system), he is the third youngest member of NCT overall.
Sungchan appears to be athletic because he mentioned exercise and soccer as two of his biggest hobbies. He also loves video games and watching animal videos. Writing rap is his special ability, which is why fans believe he could debut in the group's rap line.
Like Shotaro, Sungchan loves Japanese food. Besides sushi, he is also a fan of sashimi (sliced raw fish and meat).
Sungchan has a more clumsy and forgetful personality, and his charming points are his height, eyes, and quirks.
So far, fans have not discovered any information about Sungchan's pre-debut life. In a message from Dear U to fans, YangYang revealed that he has known Sungchan since his trainee days, so he has likely been with SM Entertainment for quite some time.
At this time, two theories prevail about the future of the new members. Some fans believe that Shotaro and Sungchan may join NCT Dream due to their young age. However, after SM Entertainment announced in April that NCT Dream would have no more "graduations," many believe that the unit's lineup is now complete.
Alternatively, various NCTzens have suggested that Shotaro and Sungchan will be part of a new unit with other existing members of the group, although no one is quite sure what concept to expect.
Whatever happens in the future, while some fans were initially skeptical about adding new members to NCT 2020, the global NCTzens seem to welcome them with open arms. The 23-member project group will debut on October 12 with NCT 2020: RESONANCE Pt. 1.
