Jennifer Aniston's Best Haircuts
We take a tour of the great look changes of the actress. From her famous 'Rachel' haircut to the XXL mane
"I think it was not my best haircut," declared Jennifer Aniston, debutant a few days ago on Instagram, in the Allure.com media. The actress, famous for her portrayal of Rachel Green on the television series 'Friends', thus remembered the hairstyle that catapulted her to fame. Her and, of course, the author of the look: her stylist, Christopher McMillan. A relationship that has spanned more than 25 years of friendship and that to this day continues to reap great successes. In fact, last year Aniston herself was in charge of delivering the award for "Best Stylist". “Nobody has the ability to do what Chris did to me. I used to call her the Rachel, because I got that haircut, which was like, 'Wow this is amazing,' and then I was left with frizzy hair, because I had no idea how to do what she did with the brush. Nobody seems to know how to do what Chris does, "said the actress at the ceremony.
A fact that beyond the anecdote again reminds us that behind a great cut or an important change of look there must (always) be a good professional. A person who knows us and who knows how to differentiate which hairstyle best meets our needs or not. In short, a trusted person with whom - even if we carry a photo in hand - we can talk and convey our wishes.
We look back in time to remember what have been some of the best haircuts of the actress.
1. The 'Rachel' cut
Known in the world of beauty and hair as the 'Rachel' cut, it was, without a doubt, the most requested hairstyle in the 90s. Its creator has never hesitated to affirm that that cut changed her life and is that, no matter how the years go by, it will continue to be one of the most cited looks in hairdressers around the world. A couple of years ago, for example, model Bella Hadid appeared in a cut that was dubbed 'The Rachel 2.0'.
Named in honor of the character played by the actress in the series 'Friends', the 'Rachel' cut consists of a shag-style mane, paraded and with many layers. Most of them very thin and almost imperceptible. “It is quite a complicated hairstyle to style as it needs very regular cuts to keep the layers well. It's high maintenance, not a wash-and-go style. In addition, it is necessary to dry with a round brush to help define all those gestures ”, Chris herself confirmed in The Telegraph.
2. 'Blunt Bob'
What have Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Aniston had in common? The 'blunt bob' cut! Yes it is. The first made it fashionable more than a decade ago and the second managed to make it viral in the summer of 2017 with her sister Khloé. Two styles that are very different from each other but with the same common denominator: straight hair, straight from beginning to end and parted in the middle. A very beneficial haircut since, as pointed out by our colleague Ana Morales, beauty editor at Vogue.es, “it manages to refine a rounded face by styling and hiding the sides, just like with square jaws. Furthermore, it favors small faces, especially if the cheekbones and temples are cleared ”.
A look with a lot of character that has already been worn by characters in fiction such as: actress Amanda Seyfried in the film In time (2011), Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction (1994) or Gwyneth Paltrow in the comedy The Royal Tenenbaums (2001).
3. With noticeable layers
Layered haircuts have a good chance of being beneficial for most hair. This is so. Thanks to them we can give or remove volume to the hair, add movement to the hair and comfort when combing it. A styling trick that allows you to do the opposite of what the ‘Rachel’ cut didn’t do: wash your hair and go out without having to blow dry or comb it. This is achieved thanks to a cut with very thin layers or, in most cases, something more noticeable like those worn by the actress. Her first layer borders the facial area of the jaw and chin while the last is below the shoulders. A quite suitable result whether you have curly, wavy or straight hair.
4. The XXL mane
It was at the beginning of the year 2000, at the party organized by Vanity Fair, when the actress surprised the audience with a blonde hair, super smooth and XXL. A trend that invoked the hippie movement of the 70s and that made this moment even more evocative by opting for the middle part. The protagonist of The good girl has not been seen much more with extensions but what is clear is that she could well wear them again today.
There has been a lot of debate about whether XXL manes had managed to take over the reign of the ‘hairstyle of the year 2019’ or, had given the throne to bob cuts. Be that as it may, what nobody dares to discuss is that they are still on everyone's lips. In fact, there are many celebrities who continue to bet on getting on stage or walking down a red carpet with endless ponytails or hair beyond the hips. Without going any further, the new Spanish singer Rosalía opted for one of these hairstyles at the MTV VMAs 2019 along with a suit signed by Riccardo Tisci and the model Gigi Hadid let her hair show off at the Chanel spring-summer 2020 show.
5. ‘Aniston’ mane
Finally, we have allowed ourselves the luxury of considering this look as ‘Aniston’ since, for years, the actress has made very few modifications to it. Unless the script required it, the Golden Globe winner hasn't changed her hair shape much again. A look that is based on having a long, smooth (medium) mane, with very subtle layers so that, in this way, the hair does not fall flat and ‘without grace’. An ideal cut for those women who want something simple, without much innovation and easy to wear. Aniston's word.
