Leonardo DiCaprio wins first career Oscar for "The Revenant"
Leonardo DiCaprio won the first Oscar of his career when he was chosen best actor for "The Revenant", by Mexican Alejandro González Iñárritu.
"'The Revenant' is about a man's relationship with a natural world," DiCaprio said as he picked up the statuette. "2015 was the hottest year (...) We had to move to find snow," said the 40-year-old actor about the filming, which took place in part in Argentine Patagonia.
"Climate change is the most real threat facing our species," insisted DiCaprio, who is famous for his activism in defense of the environment. "There are people who have seen their voice silenced by the politics of greed (...) we do not take the planet for granted," he added.
Six times nominated for an Oscar
This was the sixth Oscar nomination for DiCaprio, who until now had always left the ceremony empty-handed. However, all the pools indicated that this year he would achieve it for his role as Hugh Class, a 19th century American explorer and hunter.

Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu triumphed again at the Oscars thanks to "The Revenant" and, in his subsequent appearance before the media, he assured that he could not "be happier."
"I love this film as I loved 'Birdman'", said the director, who was accompanied by the protagonist of "The Revenant, Leonardo DiCaprio, referring to the two films with which he has become part of the history of the awards of the Hollywood Academy.
