Meghan and Harry on Netflix: the couple signs a "multimillionaire agreement" with the audiovisual content platform

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle - the Dukes of Sussex - reached an agreement with the online audiovisual content platform Netflix to produce a series of programs, the couple confirmed.

US media indicate that through this "millionaire agreement" the Dukes of Sussex will produce documentaries, series, films and children's spaces, among others, for Netflix.

According to The New York Times, it is a "multi-year" contract.

"Our focus will be to create content that is informative but also hopeful," Harry and Meghan said in a statement sent to the press.

"As new parents, doing inspiring programming for families is important to us as well, as is telling powerful stories through a truthful and relevant lens," they noted.

Netfilx boss Ted Sarandos said she was "incredibly proud" that the royal couple had adopted the company as "their creative home."

The deal comes after Harry and Meghan resigned their royal duties earlier this year and moved from the UK to North America to stay out of the media spotlight.

"Our lives, both independent of each other, as well as as a couple, have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience and the need to connect," the couple said in a statement.

"With our work in diverse communities and their environments, bringing a light to people and causes throughout the world, our focus will be to create content that informs but also gives hope."

Exclusiveness

The couple said they were happy to work with Netflix, noting that its "unprecedented reach" would "help them share content that has impact and encourages action."

As far as is known, the material produced will remain "exclusive" for Netflix, the world's leading online entertainment service, with 193 million subscribers in 190 countries.

For his part, Sarandos indicated that his company was "excited to tell stories" with the couple "that can build resilience and increase understanding of the audience everywhere."

According to the Hollywood news site Deadline, projects already underway include "an innovative nature documentary series and an animated series celebrating inspiring women."

The Duke of Sussex is currently featured on "Rising Phoenix," a documentary on Netflix about the Paralympic Games, one of the causes he supports.

Previously, Meghan partnered with Disney to narrate "Elephant," a documentary about elephants for the Disneynature channel.

The announcement of the production agreement follows the recent publication of "Finding Freedom", a book that chronicles the difficulties of the couple with the royal family.

A spokesman for the couple said they had not been interviewed for the book, which recounts a tense atmosphere between the Sussex dukes and the other members of the royal family before they left the UK.
