Taylor Swift overtakes Kim Kardashian as most-followed Instagram user

Cats, baked goods and #squadgoals have helped Taylor Swift claim the title of most-followed person on Instagram.

The international pop star, who's in the business of breaking records, surpassed reality star Kim Kardashian West, whose ubiquitous selfies, famous-family snaps and fashion pics had ruled the photo-sharing app's top spot since last month after she usurped it from singer Beyonce (and celebrated with a cleavage-baring photo.)

As of Wednesday morning, the 25-year-old "Shake It Off" singer had surpassed the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star by about 100,000 followers, though around 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time, the women appeared to have evened out, with about 45.6 million followers apiece. By Wednesday evening, Swift was back on top with 45.7 million followers.

In June, model Kendall Jenner broke half-sister Kardashian's record for most-liked photo on the photo-sharing site. The pregnant fashionista had been holding strong with likes on an Annie Leibovitz-shot portrait from her 2014 Florence nuptials to rapper Kanye West, but an artsy picture of Jenner's hair earned more likes about a year after Kardashian set her record.

At the time the young model's image broke the reality star's record, her picture had garnered more than 2.48 million likes, while Kardashian's fell behind at 2.47 million. On Wednesday, Kardashian's photo had 2.4 million likes, while Jenner's image pushed well ahead with 3 million.

Meanwhile, Swift's shot of herself doing the meerkat thing with her cat hit 2 million likes in one day. For comparison's sake, TSwift follows only 73 people. Kardashian, who's apparently less exclusive, follows 96, and Jenner follows 165.

Instagram did not immediately respond to The Times' requests for confirmation.
