The hidden side of Hollywood stars: past, crimes and problems with the law
Many well-known faces of the seventh art mecca on their way to fame have been the protagonists of tragic events or bad decisions.
The road to fame
Luxury, fame and success, those three words sum up the first thing that comes to mind when they say the word 'Hollywood'. The truth is that we only look at the tip of the iceberg, but we do not see what is behind it. Many actors and actresses, before touching the cinematographic sky with the tips of their fingers, have a tragic past or one full of problems with the law for behaviors that leave something to be desired. Next, we will show some of the stories that have marked the lives of many interpreters, many of them unknown to the vast majority.
Matthew Broderick and Jennifer Gray
The couple formed by Matthew and Jennifer, 'Dirty Dancing', starred in one of the darkest episodes in Hollywood history. The actors traveled to Ireland where they suffered a fatal road accident. Matthew was driving when his vehicle invaded the opposite lane and collided head-on with another passenger car. The pair of actors were completely unharmed, but the occupants of the other vehicle, Margaret Doherty and Anne Gallagher, mother and daughter, died on the spot. The actor faced jail time, but eventually managed to get around his time in prison and only had to pay a fine of $ 175 for reckless driving.
Charlize Theron
The South African actress reached film heaven in 2003 when she won the Best Actress statuette thanks to her exalted role in ‘Monster’, however, the path to fame was not easy. Charlize lived a hard childhood, marked by a fact that she would never be able to forget: Gerda Maritz, the interpreter's mother, shot and killed Charles Theron, her violent and alcoholic husband, in self-defense, who turned her family's life into a real nightmare.
Emile hirsch
Emile will always be remembered for playing Christopher Johnson McCandless in 'Into the Wild', a film based on the book with the same name, written by Jon Krakauer and which tells the story of a young man who decided to live in the open in a national park in Alaska far removed from the modern world. Emile made his mark in the world of cinema thanks to his performance in the film, but also because of his character and his bad ways. In 2015, the actor pleaded guilty to physically assaulting a Paramount executive who nearly rendered her unconscious. After reaching an agreement with the judge, the actor agreed to spend 15 days in jail and to do community work.
Lindsay Lohan
The actress went from being a "Disney girl" to detox clinics. Lindsay was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The excesses took their toll on her career, being one of the most promising actresses, who nevertheless did not get off the ground because of her uncontrolled life.
Mark Wahlberg
Mark has always had a reputation for being one of the toughest guys in all of Hollywood, but the truth is that if more than one knew his true story, they would really know why he has that fame. The actor lived a tough childhood, at 13 he was already addicted to cocaine and at 16 he had to enter a juvenile center. He also began trafficking drugs and was arrested on several occasions, one of them for robbing two citizens of Vietnamese origin. He got to enter prison, but thanks to music he managed to get out of that dark world in which he found himself. After his debut as a rapper, he also worked for fashion brands such as Calvin Klein and finally made it to the world of cinema, doing his first job for the movie "Boogie Nights."
Michelle Rodriguez
Michelle is typecast in the role of tough girl and it is not for less since in real life she has had several incidents with the law. In 2007 she was sentenced to 180 in prison after skipping probation, after having a traffic accident while under the influence of alcohol and subsequently on the run.
Danny Trejo
Surely if you are coming home in the dark of night the last thing you want to meet is someone like Danny Trejo. Known for his long hair, mustaches and serious demeanor, he is a totally typecast actor in violent movies. The truth is that Danny does not have a very good reputation, if we add up all the time he has spent in prison for all his sentences the result would be more than ten years behind bars. The truth is that this "dangerous type" fame is what has helped him to consolidate himself in the world of cinema.
Robert Downey Jr.
Robert is perhaps unique to the role of Tony Stark because of the parallels between his life and that of the fictional character: fame, alcohol and drugs at an early age. His youth was marked by a life of debauchery and without control: "I have spent many nights out completely drunk and making hundreds of calls to get drugs," he explained in an interview. The interpreter has come to be arrested for speeding, possession of weapons, marijuana, cocaine, heroin and crack. Robert managed to get out of that well thanks to the help of his current wife, Susan Levin. Last month he turned 55, of which he has been clean for the last 17.
Tim allen
Tim is one of the best known faces in American comedy. The interpreter won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy in 1995 thanks to the series "Un botched at home." He will also be remembered for playing Santa Claus in the "Go Santa Claus!" Movie saga. Many will think that the good old Tim makes this list, but the truth is that before becoming a recognized actor he was arrested in 1978 at the Kalamazoo International Airport in Michigan for possession of narcotic substances, later declaring himself a trafficker. Years later, the interpreter sang the ‘mea culpa’ and said the following about it: “that experience changed completely”.
Lillo Brancato Jr
known for being the son of Robert de Niro in 'A Story in the Bronx' or for his participation in the series 'The Sopranos', in 2009 he was sentenced to ten years in prison for participating in a robbery that ended in the death of a policeman. Ultimately, he was acquitted and convicted solely on charges of armed robbery.
Woody harrelson
Woody is one of those actors that everyone likes. He will always be remembered for being the bartender for 'Cheers' and for current jobs that have deeply penetrated today's popular culture such as 'Zombieland'. The truth is that he is an actor who exudes charisma and his free time is devoted to activism, but few people know his past. Woody was born in Texas and is the son of Charles Harrelson, a hit man who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a federal judge in 1979, and was also linked to the assassination of John F. Kennedy. His sentence was reduced thanks to the good behavior he presented. Charles died in prison at the age of 68 after suffering a heart attack.
