Depending on the type of drug, some habits are very difficult to break and exceed rational thinking. Imagine trying to wean yourself off hard drugs that are even more physically and psychologically addictive.
But you can't expect someone in a relationship to continue acting like a nurse, babysitter, or surrogate mother to someone with a drug addiction.

I suppose anyone with some intelligence will do some research before using any drug (be it illegal or legal) and if you decide to use it anyway it is your choice but you cannot expect your partner to continue to deal with the consequences of such a choice .
There is simply nothing glamorous, brave, or mysterious about using (hard) drugs - they will just make your own life and those of those who have to deal with you even more difficult in the long run.
And if the partner of someone who continuously abuses drugs leaves, they also have the right not to have to deal with someone who is unpredictable and who you never know in advance if they will be sober or under the influence on a date.
The only option you may disapprove of is simply starting a relationship with someone who has a drug addiction.
You can never be held responsible for the choices other people made in their lives, and certainly not when it comes to choosing to use drugs as a way of dealing with problems in your life.
I personally had a good friend for more than three years, but regularly appointments were missed because this friend drank too much and then either didn't show up or was very excited.
Obviously, and being a professional health care specialist myself, I first heard her story, recognized the problem, tried to persuade her to kick the habit, go to therapy, ... but in the end you cannot 'help' someone who is not seriously willing to kick the habit of using drugs to deal with his problems.
So after three years of a lot of dates that were not respected, I also decided to end this friendship, because people who use drugs basically not only drag their own lives down the drain, but it also becomes more and more a burden on the people who have to deal with them.
