Melania advises Trump to accept defeat
The circle of close friends who suggests to the president that he recognize the triumph of Biden grows
Donald Trump is increasingly left alone in his defense of an electoral victory. His wife, Melania, has advised him to accept defeat at this time when the scrutiny grants an unmitigated victory to his Democratic rival and the entire country has been celebrating Joe Biden's new term for hours.
The situation around the outgoing president is tinged with tragedy rather than caricature. Not only has his partner recommended that he announce the end of his term to Americans, but the number of relatives and members of the Republican leader's inner circle who have given him the same opinion is growing. Even his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, one of his main advisers and architect, for example, of the diplomatic success of the Trump Administration with the normalization of relations between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, has asked him to grant the elections to Biden.
So far, the silence is absolute and the reactions in a president as impetuous as the Republican, surprisingly rare. A few hours ago, he broke the American electoral tradition of offering a speech in recognition of the defeat before the new president-elect makes his own. He opted for silence. But the same has happened with his handling of social networks.
Want expected a furious reaction on Twitter - his preferred channel - they have found only a few messages where the tenant of the White House, in a more rhetorical way, continues to differentiate between the votes that he considers "legal" and the rest, and he claims victory "by far." The attitude has already been described as "decadent" and "pathetic" by some analysts, who believe that in this way the institutional value of the White House is being tarnished. It also does not help that, in their first statements calling themselves the winner, three of the main television networks suspended the broadcast and other networks maintained it but labeling their deceptions or "unverified data" underneath.
Such a blow to a man accustomed to making use of television -especially Fox, which is also leaving him behind- seems to have made his advisers rethink that the president once again make a speech to the nation and they have made it known, with the tremendous political and personal weight that accompanies it: a president of the United States who is doomed to have the media shut the microphones for his deceptions. Apparently, only Ivanka, the daughter who has been her best mental support in these last four days, remains decidedly by her side. Of course, without dwelling too much on her warnings to the Republicans who are deserting the ship that the right-wing electorate will take their toll on them for abandoning a Trump who was surprised by her defeat playing golf. According to Europa Press, which collects sources consulted by CNN, Melania would have made this recommendation to Trump, following her usual advice. "She has offered her opinion, as she often does", point up two different sources.
