Obama congratulates Joe Biden on victory

The former President of the United States, Barack Obama, has sent congratulations to former Vice President Joe Biden for his virtual triumph in the 2020 elections.

In a message, Obaama said he was proud of the triumph of the next president, Joe Biden, and our next First Lady, Jill Biden.

Nor could I be more proud to congratulate Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff on the groundbreaking election of Kamala as our next vice president, he added.

This is the rest of the message:

"In this election, in never before experienced circumstances, Americans turned out in numbers never seen before. And once each vote is counted, President-elect Biden and Vice-President-elect Harris will have won a historic and decisive victory.

We are fortunate that Joe has what it takes to be president and already behaves that way. Because when you enter the White House in January, you will face a series of extraordinary challenges that no incoming president has ever faced: a raging pandemic, an uneven economy and justice system, a democracy at risk, and a climate in peril.

"I know that you will get the job done with the best interests of all Americans in mind, whether or not I have your vote. So I encourage all Americans to give it a shot and support it. Election results in all The levels show that the country remains deeply and bitterly divided. It will be up to not just Joe and Kamala, but each of us, to do our part: go beyond our comfort zone, listen to others, lower the temperature and find a common ground from which to move forward, of us remembering that we are one nation, under God.

"Finally, I want to thank everyone who worked, organized, and volunteered for the Biden campaign, all Americans who got involved in their own way, and everyone who voted for the first time. Your efforts made a difference. Enjoy this one. So stay engaged. I know it can be exhausting. But for this democracy to last, it requires our active citizenship and a sustained focus on issues, not just in election season, but every day in between.

"Our democracy needs us all more than ever. And Michelle and I look forward to supporting our next President and First Lady however we can," he concluded.
