Open war between Anna Wintour and Melania Trump

"Being on the cover of‘ Vogue ’does not define Mrs. Trump," responds the first lady's spokeswoman after the fashion editor's statements, whom she describes as an "insecure" woman.

It seems that the open war between Melania Trump and Anna Wintour does not come to an end. After the Vogue editor hinted in a recent CNN interview that the first lady of the United States was not worthy to appear on the cover of her magazine, now, Donald Trump's wife has responded. "Being on the cover of Vogue does not define Mrs. Trump, she has already been there long before she was first lady," said her spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, referring to the cover she starred in 2005 after marrying Donald Trump .

During an interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour last week, the editor of the publication that is considered the bible of fashion spoke, among other things, about some of the women related to politics who have appeared in her magazine, such as Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton, both when their respective husbands were president of the United States. "You have to stand up for what you believe in and you have to have a point of view," Wintour said, hinting that Donald Trump's politics is the reason the magazine rejects his wife.

“Obviously, they are women who we consider to be icons and inspire women from a global perspective. I think it has to be fair, you have to look everywhere, but I don't think it's a time not to take a position, "said Wintour. And she explained how the process is to choose the protagonist of each publication: "We present a profile of women who believe in the position they take on the issues we support, and we believe they are leaders."

While Trump hasn't posed for Vogue since becoming first lady, her predecessor, Michelle Obama, instead starred in up to three covers. Asked about it, Wintour declared that the election was easy and pointed out that Obama "redefined" what the role of first lady meant. Hilary Clinton also made the cover of Vogue in 1998, during her husband Bill Clinton's second term. The magazine even endorsed the former presidential candidate during her 2016 White House run. Last year the famous fashion publication also featured Senator Kamala Harris among its pages.

"Her role as the first lady of the United States and everything she does is much more important than a superficial photo shoot and cover," Melania Trump's spokeswoman insisted on Fox News. Grisham further added that Donald Trump's wife would not be available for a second cover even if the invitation was presented. "This further shows how skewed the fashion magazine industry is and shows how insecure and carefree Anna Wintour is," she said.

Melania Trump appeared on the cover of Vogue in February 2005, shortly after marrying the mogul and current president of the United States. For the photoshoot, the first lady posed in a wedding dress, including veil, designed by John Galliano during her stay at Christian Dior.
