The phrases of Lady Di during her interview with Martin Bashir in 1995
25 years after Princess Diana's interview with journalist Martin Bashir, we remember some statements about her personal life and marriage.
There was an interview with Lady Di that became controversial for her statements, and there is one in particular that continues to resonate: when she was questioned by her marriage and Camilla from Cornwall. Diana replied "well, there were three of us in that marriage, and it was a bit crowded." Do you remember her? It was made in 1995 by the then famous journalist Martin Bashir.
Diana's interview, one of the greatest firsts of the 20th century, revealed the intimate life of the royal family
Well, the news just came out that the BBC launched an independent investigation where it is suspected that Bashir falsified documents to obtain said interview. The first and most direct involved in accusing him —25 years later — was Diana's brother, Count Charles Spencer.
Spencer claims that Bashir showed his bank statements - which turned out to be false - to prove that security services paid two people to spy on his sister.
"If I had not seen these statements, I would never have introduced Bashir to my sister," he wrote in a letter to the BBC, apologizing for these "dishonest" methods. The new CEO, Tim Davie, said they will do the proper investigation.
Remembering some phrases of Diana during the interview with Martin Bashir:
“I believe that every steadfast woman in history had to go through the same path. And I think it is strength that causes confusion and fear.
“At 19 years old, you think you are ready for anything and you know exactly what is going to happen. But even though the prospects discouraged me at first [about getting married], I felt like I had my husband's support. "
"When you have divorced parents like me, you want to work harder to make the marriage work, and you try to avoid making the same mistake you've seen in your family."
"The pressure we endured as a couple in relation to the media was too great, and many people misunderstood us."
“[When I learned that the first child was a boy] I felt a great relief. I felt as if the entire country was going to give birth to me. A great relief".
“[Postpartum depression] got me labeled. "Diana is unstable and mentally unbalanced." And unfortunately that label has reappeared on other occasions.
“The fact that my husband and I had to stay together so as not to disappoint people, when it was obvious that there was a lot of anxiety within the four walls of our home. Bulimia was my defense mechanism. And for a while, it worked.
"[How did you find out about Carlos and Camilla's relationship?] From the changes in my husband's behavior ... From many details that only the female instinct captures."
