The word that could be included in the dictionary thanks to Meghan Markle
The Duchess is the protagonist of one of the most popular words of the year. The term Megxit was established following the couple's announcement to resign from their senior positions in the British royal family in January.
Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, will celebrate their first year outside the first circle of the British royal family in March. This decision not only left its mark on the Windsors but on the world in general and a proof of them is that the Collins Dictionary announces the word of the year at Christmas and that of this 2020 would have a lot to do with the Dukes of Sussex; today based in Los Angeles with their 19-month-old son Archie.
The English dictionary monitors the use of words by studying sources such as newspapers and social networks, for that reason, it came to the conclusion that Megxit was a term that had been widely used during 2020.
The Times newspaper published that the first time this word was recorded was in 2019, when the newspapers used it to refer to the news of the staff that abandoned Meghan after her marriage to Harry in May 2018, but had more force after the 8 January when they announced their desire to become independent from the in-laws of the former American actress.
"The use of Meghan's name has been taken in some circles as an identification of the Duchess as the driver of the exit," a representative of Collins Word of the Year 2020 told the aforementioned English newspaper.
Megxit is one of the leading terms to become the word of the year. The origin of the word is composed of Meg (short for Meghan Markle) and exit (due to the influence of Brexit). Other competing words are "essential workers," "self-isolation," "social distancing," and many more, derived from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Collins dictionary is published by Harper Collins in Gaslgow, one of the largest in the world and one of the five largest in the English language, such as Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Hachette and Macmillan.
Currently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex managed to stabilize in their new $ 14 million mansion in Montecito, California and have participated in virtual events, on the topics that interest them most such as the Black Lives Matter movement and feminism.
On the other hand, the couple did not issue public greetings to Prince Charles on his 72nd birthday. His Royal Highness had a birthday on Saturday, but neither his youngest son nor his daughter-in-law sent him congratulations via social media.
The British newspaper The Sun noted that unlike the other members of the royal family, the Dukes of Sussex did not demonstrate at any time. The couple is believed to have privately sent their best wishes to their son Archie's grandfather at best.
The couple announced their intention to step aside from their royal duties on January 8 through a statement. On March 31, her resignation was made official. By then, they had already settled in California after a few months in Vancouver, Canada.
According to the British press, the Prince of Wales always showed his support for the couple in their attempt to change their lives. The heir to the British throne is said to have paid some of the couple's expenses, even after they left the monarchy.
Carloss's birthday came a day after royal biographer Robert Lacey noted that he has no plans to relinquish the title to his eldest son, 38-year-old Prince William. On Friday, during the "Good Morning Britain2" show, the expert Royal indicated that, as the oldest apparent heir to the British throne, Charles will be the oldest king in history when he is crowned by Queen Elizabeth II, 94.
Still, he has no intention of turning aside for the Duke of Cambridge to advance. "I do not believe that Carlos would voluntarily renounce the fate he has waited for so long," he emphasized.
William and his wife Kate Middleton, both 38, did send regards to the birthday boy on Saturday. "Wishing a very happy birthday to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales!" The couple wrote on their @KensingtonRoyal account.
