Donald Trump Jr and wife Vanessa announce divorce
The couple announced the decision in a joint statement, the request was filed in a New York court
Donald Trump Jr, the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, and his wife Vanessa announced in a joint statement that they have decided to separate after filing for divorce in a New York court. "After 12 years of marriage we have decided to take different paths. We will always have great respect for each other and for our families".
Married since 2005
Both in their 40s, Donald Jr and Vanessa got married in 2005 and have five children who, they stressed, remain the priority. The two had met at a fashion event in 2003. The wedding two years later, celebrated in the residence of his father, Mar-a-Lago, Florida. In recent days, Vanessa Trump has been the victim of a small accident, hospitalized after opening a letter with suspicious dust addressed to her husband. The powder had later proved harmless.
The couple
Vanessa Trump grew up on Manhattan's Upper East Side and, according to the New York Times, she was also a former flame of Leonardo DiCaprio. Trump Jr's wife used to frequently share family photos on Twitter, especially those of the weekends spent in Catskills; since last June the retweets had stopped, suggesting a possible separation of the couple. Donald Trump Jr and his brother Eric took the reins of the Trump Organization following his father's election to the White House, while the doors of politics opened for his sister Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner.
