Donald Trump’s KFC obsession, Melania’s love of Magnolia Bakery and Barron’s penchant for a Starbucks Frappuccino: what are the first family’s favourite foods and drinks?
Donald and Melania’s eating habits couldn’t be more different: while the president prefers his chicken fried and from a bucket, his wife’s go-to is Jean George’s Parmesan-crusted version
Even before they had access to the White House’s exemplary resident chefs, Donald Trump and his family could have eaten whatever they desired. But it seems the family has always had simpler tastes when it comes to filling their bellies. Read on to find out more about the first family’s favourite foods.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump’s preferred mode of transport may be by private jet, but the former Pizza Hut ambassador’s preferred meal choice is – more often than not – cheap fast food. He’s been sighted on numerous occasions munching McDonald’s and KFC at altitude, and let’s not forget the time he famously ordered a spread of burger and fries to welcome the North Dakota State University football team to the White House.

His preference for big chain restaurants is believed to be linked to his paranoia about potentially consuming unsafe or unclean foods. The self-confessed germaphobe has previously spoken about the fact that he feels more comfortable grabbing a bite from a well-known brand than an independent restaurant, because they’re required to maintain higher standards of cleanliness, according to The Washington Post.
Another food we know he’s a fan of? Steak – once starting his own ill-fated Trump Steak brand – and it’s likely no coincidence New York’s famous Trump Tower is home to a Trump Grill restaurant. However he’s just as often spotted chowing down on the restaurant’s Mexican-style taco bowl.
Although Trump often skips breakfast, when he does treat himself to a morning meal he likes his eggs “over-well” and “bacon medium”, according to People magazine.
Trump is also a famous teetotaller, so while royals and politicians sip wine at important events, he can usually be seen slurping a Diet Coke instead. According to Business Insider, Trump’s favourite desserts include cherry vanilla ice cream and chocolate cake.
Melania Trump
In an October blog post talking about her experience with coronavirus, Melania wrote that she prefers natural medicine and opts for healthy foods. According to Inside Edition, the first lady eats seven pieces of fruit per day, often cramming them into a smoothie, and sometimes adding a bowl oatmeal for breakfast.
Her treat meal is much more interesting, though. According to Insider, her favourite blowout dish is reportedly a US$68 chicken Parmesan from the Jean-Georges restaurant inside Trump Tower, and while in Texas, she’s been spotted grabbing a portion of Whataburger’s famous fries. In general though, Melania seems to smartly avoid rich and fatty foods.

Melania’s weakness when it comes to dessert? Cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery (as evidenced by her numerous social media posts about them), and ice cream, which she has an entire freezer dedicated to. We like her style.
Barron Trump
Melania told luxury lifestyle publication DuJour that her son Barron loves a Starbucks Frappuccino. Luckily for him, the family has a branch of the coffee chain right there inside NYC’s Trump Tower. The Trumps haven’t spilled much else regarding what Barron enjoys eating, but Melania told CNN that if the White House didn’t come with a team of chefs, the go-to family meal she’d cook would probably be spaghetti.
