Has Melania Trump lied about speaking five languages?
Despite claiming to be a polyglot on several occasions, the first lady of the United States, Melania Trump, seems not to be able to speak all the languages in which she says she is fluent.
According to an interview with Mika Brzezinski, in 2016, Melania Trump claimed to speak "some languages" and went on to list them: "English, Italian, French, German", in addition to Slovenian, her mother tongue.
American journalist John Aravosis decided to thoroughly investigate whether the first lady is truly capable of communicating in these languages. In a video published in 2017 - which recently went viral again - Aravosis analyzes Melania's abilities to speak French and Italian, languages in which the journalist himself is fluent.
Aravosis recalled Melania's visit to a French school during an official trip to the Gallic country as part of the commemorations of the storming of Bastille in July 2017. On that occasion, although it was "the perfect opportunity to show off her French", according to the journalist, the first lady only greeted the students.
"Someone who is fluent in French says a little more than 'hello, my name is this'. You would at least show the kids that you speak French and show off a little to the local audience," Aravosis said in his video.
The journalist added that Melania behaved in a similar way when she had to speak Italian. During a visit to a children's hospital in Rome, during an official trip to the Alpine country, the first lady of the United States said only a few words to greet the children. Aravosis added that, although she hardly spoke, her Melania managed to make a mistake that one learns to avoid already in the first week of Italian studies.
Although she does not speak German, Aravosis decided to search for videos of the first lady speaking that language, but he has not been able to find a single record that proves that Melania can communicate in this language.
