Melania Trump, successfully operated on her kidney
The first lady of the United States, Melania Trump, underwent surgery on Monday to treat a "benign condition" in the kidneys, according to the White House. "The procedure was successful and there were no complications," added the presidential office without going into details.
The operation had not been announced in advance and it was unknown that Melania Trump, 48, suffered from kidney problems. She underwent an embolization procedure, which involves blocking a blood vessel, according to a statement from the White House.
The intervention took place at the Walter Reed Military Hospital, outside of Washington and where presidential families are usually treated. Donald Trump's wife will "probably" remain hospitalized for the rest of the week. "The first lady hopes for a full recovery so that she can continue her work for children everywhere," the note added.
The US president wrote on Twitter that Melania, whom he visited in hospital, is in "good" spirits and thanked those who have wished him a speedy recovery.

The absence of details in the White House statement has fueled speculation about the first lady's ailment. In a country where the health of the president is a matter of state, which is explained with enormous transparency, the main question is whether the intervention and hospitalization for several days of Melania Trump respond to a serious medical problem, for example a benign tumor, or simply a cautious solution has been chosen.
Melania Trump has maintained a very low-key public profile in the 16 months that she has been first lady. She has barely intervened in public events, she has remained distant with her husband at certain times and has dedicated herself above all to taking care of their son, Barron, 12 years old.
The first lady announced precisely a week ago her first great initiative. It is a program, called ‘Be Best’, which focuses on promoting the well-being of children, fighting against abuse in social networks and against the epidemic of deaths from opiates.
