The bodyguard that Meghan and Harry pay 6,250 euros a day
The great stars of the world have requested his services and Gavin de Becker owes his fame to actresses such as Liz Taylor and Carrie Fisher.
He's neither Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner), nor does he have Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston) behind his back, but he's as in demand as he is. All celebrities want to feel protected by Gavin de Becker, 64 years old. He's the henchman of the jet set.
The last to hire their services have been Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Los Angeles (United States). They did so in March, when their security agreement with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police ended.
His company, Gavin of Becker and Associates, has served in
among others the Beckhams, Jeff Bezos, Elizabeth Taylor, Meryl Streep and John Travolta. The company says it is protecting 90 of the world's most prestigious families and individuals, and not at cheap prices, as might be expected considering who it works for. Charge up to $ 7,000 (6,250 euros) per day.
Gavin de Becker's references could not be better: he has worked for the US government as an advisor to avoid the threats that the country could face, as published by The New York Times.
According to Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon with whom he has worked for more than 20 years, the bodyguard has been "one of the smartest and most capable leaders I know", while actor Michael J. Fox has assured that his company is a "Secret service for famous people."
The New York Times claims that Prince Harry and Meghan have six bodyguards from Becker's company at their disposal and that they work rotating shifts. They would be professionals who have previously worked in the FBI, in the United States Navy and even in the CIA. The expenses are borne by the couple, having resigned from the British royal family at the end of March.
The bodyguard earned the trust of the world's wealthiest celebrities after working as an assistant to actress Elizabeth Taylor and after becoming friends with fellow performer Carrie Fisher. It was those two actresses, according to the newspaper, who made him understand the danger to which celebrities were continually exposed. And from that moment, he began his other professional career, that of protection.
Gavin de Becker published his memoir in 1997, The Gift of Fear (the gift of fear). The book was translated into 18 languages. In it he tells of his tragic childhood, full of violence and with a mother hooked on heroin. The play has been recommended numerous times by famous host Oprah Winfrey. It is her favorite book. Gavin de Becker is, quite simply, a lifeline for "his people."
