The wife of Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the US president, is taken to the hospital after opening an envelope containing white powder
The daughter-in-law of the president of the United States, Vanessa Trump, was taken to the hospital on Monday as a precaution after she opened an envelope containing white powder, police said.
The letter was addressed to Donald Trump Jr., Donald Trump's eldest son, and was delivered to his Manhattan apartment in New York City.
Firefighters arrived at the building, where Vanessa Trump and other people were, and decontaminated the place. Those present were then transferred to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) told the BBC that they tested the white powder inside the envelope and confirmed it was not dangerous.
They also reported that Trump's daughter-in-law did not appear to be physically affected by the substance.
The Secret Service said it was investigating the incident.
The New York Fire Department (FDNY) confirmed that three people were taken to the Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan.
Police received a call from the apartment at around 10:00 local time (15:00 GMT), according to local officials.
On September 18, Trump Jr., 40, chose to renounce Secret Service protection for himself, his wife, and his five children, but it was reactivated a week later.
