This is the gift Oprah Winfrey is giving to royal baby Archie
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — announced the birth of their baby boy, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, the latest addition to the British monarchy. The baby is sure to be showered with much love, adoration and of course, many gifts.
Oprah Winfrey, who is close friends with Prince Harry and Markle (she attended their wedding and recently tapped Harry for a mental health documentary series for Apple’s new streaming service), has already decided what she will give Archie.
“I have a standard gift that I do for people that I really care about,” Winfrey told Access Hollywood in April, shortly before Markle gave birth. ”[T]his baby will have enough books to last a lifetime.”
Indeed, Winfrey often gives books as gifts. And if the book-centered gift she gave Mindy Kaling’s baby Katherine last year is any measure, Archie will get a library fit for a royal.
Oprah sent a U-Haul with dozens of books to her “Wrinkle in Time” co-star’s house.
“They arrived with a hand-carved bookcase, prettier than any professional dollhouse you had ever seen that contained a hundred of the classic essential books in children’s literature,” Kaling told USA Today in February 2018, three months after the baby was born. “And I held my baby up to it and I said, ‘Did you see what Miss Winfrey did for you?’”
Each book also said “Katherine’s Book Club” on it, according to Kaling. “It’s the most amazing gift.”
Winfrey famously cherishes books, and Oprah’s Book Club — which she started back in 1996 and will soon be coming to Apple’s new streaming service — has helped send many a tome to best-seller stardom, from “Song of Solomon” by Toni Morrison in the club’s inaugural year to Michelle Obama’s “Becoming.”
“There’s nothing more thrilling than being transported by a brilliant book — nothing,” Winfrey said at an Apple event announcing the collaboration in March. “The only thing more gratifying than an extraordinary read is being able to share that experience with others....”

Oprah Winfrey has come out in defense of Meghan Markle. The American presenter has described as "unfair" the hail of criticism that the Duchess of Sussex has suffered in recent weeks. Winfrey assures that the wife of Prince Henry of England has a "big heart".
"I think she is being portrayed unfairly, and I think if people knew her they would know that she is not only elegant and dynamic in her position, but also has a magnificent, warm, generous and caring heart," said Winfrey, a of the most relevant and influential figures on television in the United States, on the CBS This Morning program.
The former American actress and new member of the British royal family has received numerous criticisms from the media for her complicated relationship with her father and stepsister, and after knowing the details of a party she organized in New York.
According to the UK press, her 'Baby Shower', as the celebrations that take place before the birth of a child are known in which the friends of the future mother entertain her with gifts, would have cost about 500,000 euros. It is an amount that many have called disproportionate and that, apparently, Queen Elizabeth II would not have liked it at all.
However, the criticism would have gone completely unnoticed by the duchess, since, as Oprah reiterated, Markle does not fall into the temptation to investigate what is said about her on social networks. "I think it is admirable that despite everything that is happening, she does not read anything," said the American presenter, who was one of the guests at the link of the Dukes of Sussex held about a year ago.
Last February, one of Markle's former colleagues criticized the wave of negative comments towards her, saying that "it was wrong to create this level of emotional trauma to anyone, and even more so if she is pregnant."
Less than a month ago, George Clooney also came out in defense of the Duchess. She compared the media's attitude towards her to the harassment of Princess Diana of Wales. "She's very kind, smart and smart," Clooney said, adding that she found the media treatment of her unfair when all she was doing was "living her life."
