Trump pushes his wife Melania back to the US presidential campaign: interview

Melania Trump will give two or three speeches in the final days of the US presidential campaign, Republican candidate Donald Trump said in a television interview, apparently surprising his wife.

The couple appeared in a taped interview on ABC that aired on Thursday, less than two weeks before the Nov. 8 elections, in which they will face their Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

Melania, who has been away from the presidential race most of the time while caring for the couple's 10-year-old son, was asked if she was going to campaign for her husband on the final stretch of the road to the White House. .

"We'll see," she replied. "My priority is my son Barron and I support (my husband) one hundred percent and he can count on me every time he needs me."

However, Trump assured that the moment is now. "In fact, he's going to give two or three speeches," the candidate interrupted, prompting an "Oh!" of his wife.

Melania has stayed away from public exposure since the Republican National Convention in July, when she gave a speech in which she borrowed parts of the one given by first lady Michelle Obama at the Democratic National Convention in 2008.

"She's amazing when she talks," Trump said of his third wife, a former model from Slovenia. “She is an amazing speaker. She agreed to give two or three speeches and I think they are going to be big and important ”.

The New York real estate mogul, who is running for public election for the first time, trails Clinton by an average distance of 5.4 percentage points in national opinion polls, according to Real Clear Politics.
