WILL ROBERT PATTINSON BE THE NEW LEONARDO DICAPRIO?
It is 1997. Leonardo DiCaprio achieves international fame thanks to Titanic. The young actor had already participated in other productions, but it is the James Cameron film that launches its rising star into the firmament. A star that seems destined to set as soon as the lights on Jack Dawson's character have gone out. DiCaprio is handsome, of course, and immediately becomes the idol of girls. However, according to many analysts, his good looks outweighs his talent, apparently of little consequence. After Titanic, it is believed that he will no longer be heard of.
It's 2008. Robert Pattinson gets international fame thanks to Twilight. The young actor had already participated in other productions, but it is Catherine Hardwicke's film that launches its rising star into the firmament. A star that seems destined to set as soon as the lights on the character of Edward Cullen have gone out. Pattinson is handsome, of course, and immediately becomes the idol of girls. However, according to many analysts, his good looks outweighs his talent, apparently of little consequence. After the last film in the Twilight saga, it is believed that he will never be heard of again.
Two different actors. Same type of debut on the Hollywood scene. Will Pattinson manage to become the new DiCaprio, disproving the skeptics and consecrating his acting career at a high level?
Pattinson after Twilight
Sheltered from the limelight, Pattinson honed his acting skills, participating in numerous independent films appreciated by critics and audiences. A rather small audience, actually. As for the mainstream dimension, Pattinson has indeed remained “the Twilight vampire“. That's why his nomination as the new Dark Knight in the Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves sparked great amazement.
It is not the only film of great interest starring Robert Pattinson that we will see in theaters in the near future. The actor has in fact captured the interest of Christopher Nolan, who has decided to focus on him in his new film, Tenet. Pattinson's strategy in the post-Twilight years appears clear: to work on minor films, but signed by great directors, to break away from the heavy “vampire” past and establish himself as one of the most talented actors of the new generation. A plaque, that of a "talented actor", which was given to him by numerous industry leaders, primarily David Cronenberg.
Goodbye to the shiny vampires?
Pattinson's consecration in the eyes of the general public now seems imminent. Much later than DiCaprio's, which followed a similar but faster path. Within a few years, the Titanic protagonist was able to show off his talent thanks to the likes of Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. For the Oscar he had to struggle seven shirts, and in this field, perhaps, Pattinson could beat him ahead of time.
It all depends on the fate of the new films that will see Pattinson in the cast. With a solid past and a future full of wise bets, everyone could soon forget the Twilight vampire, to welcome instead an actor who can break into the hearts of any cinephile.
