For the American media, the risk is that Donald Trump, pushed by his circle, could reach an extreme gesture in this remaining month in which he is still the President in office: to make an executive order to seize all the electoral machines or to use martial law to redo the elections in the key states, ie those that were decisive for Joe Biden's victory.
What if Trump refuses to leave the White House
The current situation is undoubtedly unprecedented for the history of the United States, as all the participants in the presidential elections have always recognized their defeat, even in the most critical cases.
If Trump were in any case opposed to leaving the White House and his office as president, the steps would however be defined with Joe Biden who already in June declared that "the military will take him away if he does not want to leave".
The term of office of the American president, whoever he is, expires at noon (Washington time) on January 20, as required by the 20th amendment to the constitution, clearly excluding the possibility of an extension or extension of the office.
For some experts, these missing weeks may be the most dangerous in US history. "These days Trump could destroy the US like a bad child," said political analyst Malcolm Nance.
During this period, in fact, Trump is still the "commander in chief", maintaining the legislative power. It must be remembered that the Senate, awaiting the decisive ballot in Georgia, remained in the hands of the Republicans while in the House the majority is of the Democrats.
After the electoral college of the United States of America, that is the set of great voters won by the majority of votes in the various states, decreed the victory of Joe Biden, next January 6 the Congress will have to ratify the appointment.
At this point, Biden would have a chance to take the oath as the new president of the United States. From that moment on, he then formally becomes the head of state of the nation.
