Trump Suggests that he Will Return to Be a Presidential Candidate in 2024
The President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, is still reluctant to admit defeat in the 2020 US presidential election and legal efforts to challenge the results of the presidential election continue. But Trump appears to have acknowledged that his legal remedies could fail and has hinted that he will run for the 2024 presidential election.
As reported by the Associated Press and Reuters, Thursday (3/12/2020), Trump's comments about advancing for the 2024 presidential election were made at a holiday reception at the White House on Tuesday (12/1) evening local time. Many Republican National Commission members attended the event.
"These have been four extraordinary years," Trump told the audience, referring to his presidency over the past four years.
"We are trying to do it in four more years. If not, I will see you again in four years," he said, hinting at pencapresan 2024.
A source familiar with the internal situation said Trump was in discussion with his advisers not to attend the inauguration of the new US President on January 20, 2021, but would instead announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election on the same day. According to the source, no final decision has yet been made.
It is known that only a handful of US Presidents chose not to attend the inauguration of the new President who replaced them. Trump's rival, Joe Biden, is projected to win the presidential election with 306 Electoral College votes against Trump with 232 Electoral College votes. It takes at least 270 Electoral College votes to win the US presidential election.
A senior US Senator from the Republican Party, Lindsey Graham, previously revealed that he had asked Trump to attend Biden's inauguration. Graham called Trump's presence "will be good for the country".
