In the world, 74 countries still penalize homosexuality today. In thirteen of them, she is punishable by death.

While Democrats and anti-Donald Trump continue to work to find a way to impeach the American billionaire - like this reward of 10 million dollars to anyone who would provide compromising information to start the procedure - the The prospect of seeing the vice-president take the reins of the country is increasingly present.

And the question many are asking is whether the United States would really benefit from this. If Mike Pence were to replace Donald Trump, the torrent of accusatory tweets would surely end, the Republican Party would probably rally behind the new politician more easily, but would the agenda change?

Few believe in it. Given the positions taken by Mike Pence in the past on social issues, some even see the vice-president as a man far more conservative than Donald Trump, and who would therefore impose an even stricter line on many issues.

In a long article titled "The Danger of a Pence Presidency," the New Yorker joined these concerns on Monday, October 16. "Critics are only waiting for Trump's departure, but Mike Pence, his right-hand man, presents his own risks," the magazine warns.

In his presentation - which goes back at length to Pence's record when he was governor of Indiana from 2013 to taking office alongside Trump in January 2017 - the New Yorker explains in particular that the president likes to show the vice- president that he's the leader by regularly allowing himself to tease him in public. Among the examples given by close sources, we find the following anecdote:

During a meeting with a lawyer, Trump demeaned Pence for making abortion illegal. While the lawyer had just said that even if the Supreme Court overturned the law that allows pregnancy terminations across the country, many states would take the lead and legalize them in their territory. "You see, you've wasted so much time and energy on this, and that wouldn't end the abortion anyway," Trump said to his right arm. Then the conversation shifted to the rights of gay Americans. Trump then turned to Pence and then said to the lawyer with a laugh "don't talk to him about it, he wants to hang them all!"

In the world, 74 countries still penalize homosexuality today. In thirteen of them, she is liable to the death penalty like Iran, which promises to hang it.

The "joke" therefore speaks volumes about Trump's insensitivity and lack of interest in this topic, and once again highlights the way Mike Pence views the LGBTQ community. A few lines later, the magazine recalls that the vice-president is one of the most religious men to have met in the White House and that he organizes Bible studies there with a pastor who in 2004 said that working mothers went "against the will of God", considered "homosexuality a sin" and felt that "the wife must submit to her husband".

The New Yorker does not fail to recall at length that Mike Pence rose to fame in 2015 when he signed, as governor of Indiana, a law allowing companies to discriminate against their LGBT customers by promoting "religious freedom." .

Another notable attack on gay citizens also resurfaced during the presidential election. While elected to Congress in 2000, the politician tried to cut aid for the fight against HIV and asked that the sums be given instead to institutions that propose to "convert" people. homosexuals in heterosexual people (see the video below).
