Donald Trump: how his wife Melania refused to help him after a sex scandal

During his 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump was caught by a recording dating from 2005, where he said "catch women" by their genitals. And if to defend him his teams had then relied on his wife Melania, she had refused to help him.

Even before his election as President of the United States, a scandal marred Donald Trump's tenure in the White House. While the billionaire led the polls, his critics unearthed an audio tape from 2005 where he could be heard bragging about grabbing women by their genitals. An exit that quickly created controversy, and whose campaign teams of Donald Trump wanted to avoid the disastrous consequences on his election, even seeking the support of his wife, Melania. But that the latter refused to her husband.

Regularly mocked by detractors of her husband as well as by her daughter-in-law Ivanka, who nicknamed her "the portrait" because of her rare speeches, the First Lady had been called upon to support the candidate on television by her teams, during a show where they both would have been present. “When Melania finally joined the strategy session, she replied in one word: 'No'. She said she would decide for herself what to do,” explains Mary Jordan in The Art of Her Deal, a new unauthorized biography of Melania Trump, stating at that time that she "would not go on television". Which she ultimately never did.

Melania Trump is far from her husband's first support

To guide the ex-model on what to say to support Donald Trump, his teams advised her to watch a show dating from 1992, where Hillary Clinton had supported her husband Bill at the start of the presidential campaign, while he was caught by a sex scandal, specifies Mary Jordan in her book, relayed by People. But Melania Trump did not seem to hear it that way at the time, she who never publicly supported her husband in the face of accusations of sexual assault, and never even reacted to them. A refusal which however showed the nature of the First Lady who, if she preferred after the election of her husband to remain living in New York in the Trump Tower with her son Barron, quickly took up her quarters at the White House by not leaving no one to walk on the flower beds, including Ivanka Trump, her father's personal advisor.
