Melania Trump's popularity rating at its lowest

A few days before the end of her husband's mandate, Melania Trump sees her popularity drop.

Will her silence after the Capitol invasion be the last memorable fact of her role as First Lady? Melania Trump's popularity rating is at its lowest since the start of her husband's tenure, according to a CNN poll: 42% of those polled have a positive opinion of her, compared to 47% a negative opinion. 12% of those surveyed are "unsure" about her. It was in May 2018, shortly after the first state dinner of the Trump presidency and her presence (without her husband) at the funeral of Barbara Bush that Melania Trump enjoyed her highest popularity rating: 57% of those polled in had a positive opinion.

Previous First Ladies had left the White House much more popular: Michelle Obama had 69% favorable opinions, Laura Bush 67%. Even Hillary Clinton was 56% in favor in 2000, at the end of her husband’s two terms. Jill Biden will succeed him Wednesday, with the inauguration of her husband Joe Biden, but the couples will not see each other: Melania and Donald Trump will leave the White House before the ceremony.

An astonishing response to the Capitol invasion

Very discreet during the campaign and the first months of her husband's presidency, Melania Trump took more than a year and a half before launching "Be Best", the program in favor of the well-being of children, for which she visited hospitals across the country, especially to discuss the opioid crisis and its impact on newborns.

Apart from these trips, the First Lady spoke only sparingly ... but that did not prevent controversy, as with her jacket "I really don’t care, do u?" ("I really don't care, do you?"), Carried on the way to visit children separated from their parents who had crossed the border illegally.

Recently, Melania Trump posted several personal messages on the White House site. She responded to it after the Capitol invasion by supporters of her husband, having a thought for the four people who lost their lives that day, but also taking the opportunity to expose "salacious gossip" aimed at her. The First Lady still has not digested the revelations of her former friend and collaborator Stephanie Winston Wolkoff.

The latter, fired from the White House, published a book of confession, but also tapes of calls with Melania Trump. In one appeal, the First Lady is heard complaining in particular about her negative media coverage, in the midst of the controversy over the separation of families at the border, on which journalists questioned her rather than on the Christmas preparations underway.
