Donald and Melania Trump were vaccinated, neither seen nor known, in January
The information had been kept secret, unlike Joe Biden who was vaccinated live on television last December.
Before leaving the White House on January 20, former US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania received a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine. The information released by those around them was confirmed by an adviser to the 74-year-old former president.
The couple are said to have received a second dose in Florida, where they have settled. It is not determined why the Trump spouses' vaccinations have been kept secret for so long. In September, Donald and Melania Trump had contracted Covid-19. The president had received experimental treatment.
Unlike Joe Biden, who was vaccinated live on television on December 21, weeks before he took office, Donald Trump had never publicly mentioned his vaccination. "President Trump and the First Lady were vaccinated at the White House in January," a source close to the former president told AFP, without further details.
Donald Trump calls on his supporters to get vaccinated
Sunday, during his first speech since leaving the White House, Donald Trump estimated that "everyone should be vaccinated". His statements took on particular relief because some of his supporters are particularly skeptical of the vaccine.
In the meantime, the US has already vaccinated 50 million people with at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to official figures updated on Monday. More than 25 million people are already fully vaccinated with the second dose.
