Donald Trump’s Ex-Wives Have Said
We know more about Donald and Melania Trump’s marriage than we likely would have if he’d decided not to run for president. We haven’t had many divorced presidents — it’s not just his current marriage in the spotlight, but his past relationships, too. There’s a lot we still don’t know about Donald Trump’s ex-wives.
Trump has been married three times. His two ex-wives, Ivana Trump and Marla Maples, have been interviewed about the reality TV star-turned-U.S.-president on multiple occasions. Most of their comments aren’t as negative as you might expect.
‘He knows how to get what he wants’
Marla Maples, Donald Trump’s second wife, told Access Hollywood her ex-husband “knows how to get what he wants.” She acknowledged that there was a lot the two didn’t agree on, but when they first met, she did admire that about him.
He’s ‘definitely not racist’
Ivana Trump, Donald Trump’s first wife, said on Good Morning Britain in early 2018 that her ex-husband is “definitely not racist.” Rather, she doesn’t believe he is. The way he discusses immigration — and the language he uses to describe people from different countries — is just him saying “silly” things, she said.
Also, he’s a ‘stable genius’
When asked to comment on the president’s behavior, his first wife often keeps her comments civil. Ivana Trump said her ex-husband is “very focused [and] very organized.” She called him a genius, and stated she didn’t believe he would “do anything irrational.”
His tweets aren’t that bad
Ivana Trump is just as aware of Donald’s tweets as the rest of us — but she doesn’t think they’re as bad as “the media” says. She acknowledged on the talk show that he likely tweets before he thinks, but “at least it is exactly what he thinks” whether it’s always fully comprehendible or not.
He gets too much credit for raising his kids
Donald and Ivana Trump have three children together — Eric, Ivanka, and Donald Jr. Even though many give him praise for their success, their mother wrote, “I believe the credit for raising such great kids belongs to me.”
He’s ‘vulnerable’
Maples also told Access Hollywood that she saw Donald Trump as “vulnerable” when the two first started dating. Like many public figures, Trump is rather secretive — the president of the United States is expected to be. We don’t see what goes on behind closed doors — and maybe weren’t paying as much attention to his relationships with women then as we are now.
He treats the country ‘like a business’
vana Trump said her ex-husband is a true businessman — he even “runs the country like a business” as its president. She knew him rather early on in his career, and said he loves to make decisions and deals, and anything that involves a contract.
