His daughter Ivanka, ambassador to the UN? "Dynamite", according to Trump
An appointment of his daughter Ivanka to the post of ambassador of the United States to the UN "would be dynamite," said Donald Trump on Tuesday who was questioned on the rumors which see her succeed Nikki Haley, who resigned.
The US president, however, immediately added that suspicions of nepotism would likely prevent such an appointment. And Ivanka Trump herself ruled out the possibility in a tweet in the form of an update.
"I know the president is going to appoint a great person to replace Ambassador Haley. That person will not be me," she wrote.
"We have a lot of names," Donald Trump told reporters on the White House lawn from where he was going to fly to a public meeting in Iowa ahead of the mid-term legislative elections on the 6th. November.
He also referred to the name of Dina Powell, former head of the National Security Council under the US Presidency, "someone I would think about."
"But I'll tell you, people who know, they know Ivanka would be dynamite. But you know, I'd be accused of nepotism, can you believe it?" playing in front of journalists with the idea of appointing his 36-year-old daughter to this key post in the administration.
"I think Ivanka would be amazing. Which doesn't mean that I'm going to choose her (...) I don't think there is anyone who trusts the world more than she does", said he continued.
Nikki Haley announced her resignation on Tuesday morning, effective at the end of the year, taking the entire American political class by surprise. She had been one of the most prominent figures of the start of Donald Trump's mandate.
Alongside the President, in the Oval Office, she paid a deep and noticeable tribute to Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, also an adviser to the White House.
“I can't say enough good things about Jared and Ivanka. Jared is such a hidden genius,” she said.
