Barron Trump was once photographed with a chess set, but that doesn't make him a Grandmaster.

Barron Trump won the Chess Grandmaster title.

In mid-October 2018, many social media accounts began to spread the rumor that Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump, was given the title of Chess Grandmaster:

The tweets pushed the rumor out and made some weird claims: Some thought Barron Trump had 146 IQ; others concluded that Barron's father Donald Trump studied under chess legend Bobby Fischer and was also one of the most famous chess players. Many of these tweets go hand in hand with allegations that the mainstream media has ignored many of the Trump family's chess-related issues.

While it is true that mainstream news often ignores these stories, the situation is not the result of any apparent bias. These reports have been left undisclosed with the simple fact that they were not true.

The claim that Barron Trump was given a Chess Grandmaster tile is based on an October 2017 issue published on The Daily Chronicle:

Everyone knows that Barron Trump is the smartest child of the President. Or should we call him the firstborn Son?

In any case, Barron was awarded the prestigious Chess Grandmaster award this week from the International Board of Chessmasters…

This should not surprise us when you consider who the father is. Donald Trump is one of the top and most famous American chess players of all time.

In the 1970s and 80s, Donald Trump studied under the training of actors like Bobby Fischer. Eventually, he won hundreds of chess tournaments abroad before retiring at the age of 40.

Had Barron Trump been given the title at the age of 11, it would have been good news not only because he was the son of a president but also because he would have been the youngest person to ever gain that honor. At the time of writing, Sergey Karjakin holds the record for the youngest Chess Grandmaster, having been awarded the title in 2003 at the age of 12 and 7 months.
