"Justicia para todos": the message of Jennifer Lopez at the inauguration of Joe Biden
After Lady Gaga's performance, the singer performed This Land Is Your Land. A performance that she punctuated with a message in Spanish calling for unity, freedom and justice.
The inauguration ceremony of the 46th President of the United States will remain unprecedented. It was, among other things, marked by the stage performances of two world stars.
After Lady Gaga's performance of the national anthem, JLo took the microphone to sing Woodie Guthrie's iconic song This Land Is Your Land, part of which she sang in Spanish.
During her performance, the Latin singer launched a message in Spanish that did not go unnoticed: "Una nacion bajo Dios, indivisible, con libertad y justicia para todos!". It is the translation of the oath of allegiance to the flag of the United States: "A nation united under the authority of God, indivisible, with freedom and justice for all", in French.
A song and a message heavy with meaning, after four years in office of Donald Trump, marked by the construction of the wall on the Mexican border. This Land Is Your Land was written as a reaction to Irving Berlin's patriotic song God Bless America, whose author, Woodie Guthrie, believed America's greatness lay in its people, not God.
The choice of this piece is also a nod to Barack Obama, since during his inauguration ceremony in 2009, Bruce Springsteen and Pete Seeger had interpreted it.
Jennifer Lopez also slipped a "Let's get Loud", the lyrics of one of these famous hits, released in 1999.
