Meghan Markle and Harry lose royal titles: why is their interview with Oprah Winfrey likely to be disrupted?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey will be broadcast on CBS on March 7. An interview which risks being modified, due to the loss of the royal titles and patronage of the Sussex couple.

In January 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced to the Queen, and to the whole world, their wish to no longer be senior members of the royal family. A year after this historic decision, Archie’s parents are now free to stand on their own two feet. On Friday February 19, Queen Elizabeth II announced via a statement that the Sussexes will lose their titles and patronages and will therefore no longer be active members of the Crown.

The couple shared a statement from their side, and did not receive the hoped-for support from UK experts. Even Prince William said he was “sad and shocked” at his brother's attitude. Obviously, Meghan and Harry's next interview with Oprah Winfrey certainly weighed in the balance regarding this sudden decision, since Elizabeth II organized a summit meeting with her advisers on February 17th.

"A point that was not addressed during the interview"

Except that the couple certainly didn't expect to lose their titles so quickly. As a result, their interview with the famous American host is likely to be disrupted. The interview, due to air on CBS on March 7, will need to be edited, a source reported to the Mirror. “When the Duke and Duchess spoke, it was never envisaged that they would have their patronage withdrawn. They didn't see it coming and spoke because they still had roles to play, "this source revealed.

Even though Archie's parents retain the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they didn't expect to not to have any more role within the British Crown as quickly. "A point which was not raised during the interview", indicated this source. The show's producers would therefore like to redo part of the interview, so that everything fits with the couple's current affairs. A change that is likely to cause a lot of noise.
