Splashy Oprah's Interview with Meghan Markle and Harry, Trigger Controversy
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle guest on Oprah Winfrey on an interview program that will air this weekend. Not yet aired, the show has sparked controversy.
The two-hour event is highly anticipated by many, considering that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle rarely speak directly to the media about their lives. Moreover, the interviewer is someone like Oprah Winfrey who is nicknamed 'the queen of talkshow'.
On the other hand, many parties were furious and criticized the program, which will air on the United States TV station CBS on Sunday (7/3/2021), because it was present when the health condition of Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was deteriorating. Prince William and Harry's grandfather had recently undergone heart surgery and is recovering.
"In fact, this interview is very inappropriate. They better keep quiet because of the health condition of the Duke of Edinburgh," said Bob Blackman, a politician from the Conservative Party, told the Daily Mail, Thursday (4/3/2021).
Then, there was a call for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to cancel the event. However, according to an insider close to them, the real decision rests with CBS.
"There will be a lot of people talking about this program, but for all broadcast matters it depends on CBS. We have no power. It seems there are no plans to change the schedule," said the source.
The license for this event has also been sold. Unmitigated, TV stations in 63 countries will broadcast it in the near future.
Ahead of the release, CBS released several interview clips for promotional needs. On the show, Oprah asked the mother of one child about the Palace's opinion if she revealed her version of the facts on that occasion.
"I don't know what their expectations would be after all this time we were silent if there was any interference from the Society in creating lies about us," said Meghan Markle.
It is not known exactly what lie Meghan was referring to. Currently, Buckingham Palace is conducting an investigation into The Time's report on alleged bullying or bullying by Meghan Markle against two of her former staff.
"Our HR team will look at the circumstances outlined in the article. Staff members involved at that time, including those who have left work will be invited to participate to see what lessons can be learned," a Buckingham Palace spokesman was quoted as saying by CNN.
