The buzz of the United States: the 8,158 mistakes of Donald Trump
The "Washington Post" reviewed all the statements of the American president during the first two years of his mandate ...
"No president has accomplished more than me for two years", "Nancy Pelosi is controlled by the radical left", "the unemployment rate for veterans is at its lowest for 18 years" ... These are three of the errors noted by the "Washington Post" in the statements of Donald Trump, only on this last week.
The American daily, regularly vilified by the tenant of the White House, keeps a count of all its errors, approximations, false statements or statements without proof. He arrived at the impressive figure of 8,158 over the first two years of his tenure. Some are obviously repeated several times. Thus, his accusations of "witch hunts" against the investigation of Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller, whom he accuses of being biased, have been repeated 192 times.
Immigration in mind
Statistics from the Washington Post fact-checking team show that the pace has accelerated sharply over the past year. On average, Donald Trump was making 5.9 false declarations per day in his first year in office. The figure rose to 16.5 per day in the second, nearly triple. It was the campaign for the midterm elections that blew up the counters. The American president then crisscrossed the country, holding several meetings a day. In October alone, he made more than 1,200 false or erroneous comments.
The theme that generates the most approximations for him is immigration. The “Washington Post” teams have counted 1,433 errors on the subject, including 300 over the last three weeks, while the debate on the construction of the wall, on the border with Mexico, has ignited. During his speech last Saturday, during which he offered protection to the “dreamers” of the Daca program, in exchange for funding the wall, he would have made 12 mistakes. Almost one per minute, the speech having lasted 13 minutes.
"Off" days
Then come the subjects of foreign policy (900 errors), trade (854), economics (790) and employment (755). The daily also highlights a separate category: personal attacks or attacks on the media, which contain 899 false claims.
Only 82 days of the Trump presidency have been free of these false claims. But, according to the "Washington Post", these are essentially days during which the president rested and played golf, in Florida ...
