Trump, "forced" to order 300 hamburgers to receive athletes
Donald Trump has once again become a global trend on Twitter for one of his extravagant initiatives. The president of the United States received this Monday at the White House the Clemson Tigers, the American football team that just won the national university title. It was not a normal reception. As the Administration remains partially closed for the fourth week in a row, Trump was "forced" to order 300 hamburgers and other high-cholesterol products from fast food chains.
“I ordered about 300 hamburgers for you. Everything from American companies: Burger King, Wendy’s and McDonald’s (...) Everything that you and I like ”, commented the president during the official reception. To avoid criticism he was quick to claim that such a banquet had been paid for directly out of his pocket.
The lack of staff in the White House made Trump think of three possible scenarios: “either we did not give them food because we are closing in the Administration, or we offered them some small salads that the first lady would have prepared (Melania Trump ) and the second lady (Karen Pence) ... or ordered a thousand hamburgers ”, he related with his characteristic humor with macho overtones.
As can be seen in the images of the banquet, in addition to the hundreds of hamburgers, the diners were able to take portions of pizzas, bowls of chips that they could sprinkle with various sauces or some prepared salad. "Our nutritionist must have a fit," joked one of the Clemson players as he joined the feast.
The reception was a self-service, the White House put on the tables all the products that Trump had bought, a stack of plates and each one took what he wanted. The atmosphere was festive and the president achieved his goal of "hosting a fun event to celebrate the Clemson Tigers title."
"I want to see what's left here when we leave, because I don't think it's much," Trump joked at one point in his speech. When asked what his favorite food was out of all the food on the table, the president moved in his usual 'America First' line: "If he's American, I like it."
Unlike other teams that have been crowned champions of their respective sports and that have canceled their visit to the White House, such as the winners of the NBA, the Golden State Warriors, or those of the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Tigers Clemson chose to go to the appointment with Trump.
Trump's love of junk "food" goes back a long way. His usual McDonald's order is already well known: two Big Macs, two fish burgers, and a large chocolate shake. Furthermore, as Michael Wolf explained in the controversial ‘Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House’, the president chooses this large fast food chain whenever he can because of his fear of being poisoned. Nobody knows who will end up eating each hamburger that is usually prepared in advance and that gives Trump peace of mind.
