United States: Ivanka and Donald Trump advertise the Goya brand, the controversy swells

The Trumps have been offering their support since Tuesday evening to the food brand Goya, after it was targeted by a boycott because of the flattering comments of its boss towards the President of the United States.

First Ivanka then Donald. The Trumps are offering a brand new advertising campaign for Goya foods. This Tuesday evening, July 14, the president's daughter posted a photo with one of this brand's tin cans, before her father displayed directly in the White House with a whole range of products of the same name.

"I love Goya Foods"

But then why does this family play the fervent supporters? Because the food brand, particularly known for its canned dishes, found itself boycotted by part of the population. In particular by the Latin American community, yet a large consumer of these products. And for good reason, the boss of this company had particularly laudatory comments towards President Donald Trump. Invited to the White House on July 9, Robert Unane declared his admiration for the President of the United States in these words: "We are all blessed to have a leader like Donald Trump. He is an admirable builder."

The CEO caused an immediate outcry on social media. Calls to boycott the brand have been launched and supported by several personalities, in particular from the Latin American community. Among them, the very popular Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In the tone of humor on Twitter, the young elected Democrat said that she was now looking for how to make her own adobo, a marinade prepared and marketed by the Goya brand.

But faced with the controversy, the boss persists and signs. A guest on the conservative Fox News channel, he refused to apologize, and even described the #BoycottGoya campaign as an attempt to undermine his "freedom of speech." The opportunity for the Trump camp to retaliate. Starting with Ivanka Trump, daughter, advisor, and fervent support of the American president. Tuesday evening on Twitter, she posted herself all smiles on a photo with the false air of an advertising poster. Carrying a can of black beans, she accompanied the shot with a slogan written in English and Spanish: "If it's Goya, it's good."

What again create controversy in the country, since this photo, still liked more than 120,000 times in 24 hours, could violate the rules of ethics in the United States which prohibit federal employees from promoting products, services or businesses.

A risk that Donald Trump is ready to take, too. While he had assured earlier in the day that the business of the company was doing well, he also wanted to go with his photo on Wednesday. On Instagram, he posted an image that mixes genres. Displayed directly in the Oval Office, all smiles and thumbs up, it took center stage behind a series of Goya products.
