Who made a racist comment? What reaction from the royal family? Questions that remain unanswered after Harry and Meghan's interview
In the aftermath of the broadcast of the interview that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan gave to the American channel CBS and to Oprah Winfrey, their revelations about their life within the British royal family and their decision to leave it leave several unanswered questions.
How will the royal family react?
Buckingham Palace has not commented on the couple's interview. According to British media, he is unlikely to do so, except to respond to criticism of some of the members targeted personally.
The revelations are devastating, however, with Meghan claiming that she received no support while having thoughts of suicide.
Charges of racism against an unnamed member of the royal family are a particularly sensitive topic in the UK, crossed by large protests from the Black Lives Matter movement last year.
A reaction is particularly watched from the side of Harry's older brother, William, and his wife Kate.
During the interview, Meghan said that contrary to what had been reported by the British press, it was not her who made Kate cry in an incident which took place shortly before her wedding, but the opposite.
Who made a racist comment?
Harry, whose mother-in-law is black, vowed never to reveal which member of the royal family asked him how dark his son Archie's skin would be.
The revelation has sparked strong speculation and will not improve the reputation of the royal family, already criticized for their callousness.
Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip were exonerated on Monday. According to Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry insisted that she "know [...] that it was neither her grandmother nor her grandfather".
Who did Meghan ask for help?
Meghan said she asked for help after having thoughts of suicide but claimed "nothing was ever done".
Which raises questions about who she contacted, and why she was not given more help to adjust to the demands of the monarchy.
The couple's claims will have done little to improve their ties with the royal family already strained by their decision to leave the UK and step back. It could even lead to cutting ties for good.
Harry revealed that his father, Prince Charles, had stopped answering the phone for a while and said he was "really disappointed" at his lack of support while showing determination to strengthen the bond.
He also said he moved away from his brother William.
Who was jealous of Meghan?
Harry hinted that members of the royal family were jealous of Meghan's popularity during the couple's 2018 trip to Australia and New Zealand. Who was it, why and can this explain the problems that followed? This episode recalls the moment when Diana eclipsed Charles during their own tour of Australia in 1983, a subject covered in the last season of the Netflix series "The Crown".
What about accusations of harassment?
The couple's interview was filmed ahead of statements last week accusing Meghan of harassing palace aides. Last week, Buckingham Palace assured it would examine the charges, saying it was "very concerned". The Duchess has refuted these accusations.
