With surgeries they seek to be better
Celebrities have seen in the operating room the option to correct small details but it often becomes an addiction
The number of celebrities who resort to plastic surgery is uncountable. They usually request small interventions, such as fixing their nose, or a series of surgeries that, in the long run, end up completely transforming their faces or bodies.
However, it is not something typical of the show business, it is present in all areas, says the plastic surgeon José Achar Zavalza; it's just that in the artistic milieu it is more noticeable.
Zavalza has had personalities like Carmen Campuzano and Sheyla in his office, and he explains that, although you have to accept yourself 100%, that does not mean that you cannot change.
"He who does not change loses the opportunity to be something better," he says in an interview.
In his experience, among the most common interventions in celebrities who attend his clinic is liposuction and breast augmentation. But just as he defends his profession, he also points out that in the middle there are cases like Michael Jackson, who reached a point where the surgeries became mutilating.
Could these practices then be spoken of as an addiction? For Zavalza there is no limit of interventions per patient, each one is different and he believes that it is difficult for them to fall into a harmful aspect. However, they can be unrecognizable or if the surgery goes wrong they will have to resort to reconstruction.
Those cases are the ones attended by Dr. Paul Nassif, who does see extremes as addiction.
Nassif is one of the doctors who heads the Botched program, which airs from Monday to Friday at 8:20 p.m. on the E! Channel. and in which they try to fix surgeries that went wrong.
“Yes, they have seen it during these years on the show, many patients have an addiction. There are all kinds of addictions - to drinks, to drugs - and plastic surgery can absolutely be, ”he says in an interview.
"A lot of people don't really learn until unfortunately something bad happens."
Nassif relates that in an extreme scenario they have found patients who, despite his recommendations about no longer having surgery, do not listen to them and return worse, which is why he suggests that in those cases they seek psychiatric help.
"Addiction to plastic surgery is very strong and that's when you should have someone to help you, like a psychiatrist or psychologist," he says.
“At the same time you need responsible and aware doctors who, if they see that there is a case that could end worse, say no. Unfortunately no matter where you are in the world, you are going to find doctors who would do things to you even for the wrong reason. "
MICHAEL JACKSON
