The information, published in the "New York Times" and "Politico", comes as the outgoing president still refuses to accept his defeat to Joe Biden in the November 3 election.
Lara Trump, wife of Eric, the youngest son of the Republican billionaire, "told her associates that she was considering running for the Senate in 2022," the "New York Times" said, citing three "allies" who remained anonymous. Current Republican Senator Richard Burr has announced that he will not be running for re-election.
The list of Republican candidates to replace him promises to be long, with "Politico" signaling that Donald Trump's current chief of staff, Mark Meadows, former Governor Pat McGory as well as incumbent Governor Dan Forest are potential competitors.
