Goodbye Melania: the most controversial looks of the first lady
Today, January 20, Melania Trump will officially cease to be the first lady of the United States. A role that she ends with controversy, since she has decided to leave the White House early and not accompany Jill Biden on the traditional tour of what she has been her home for in the last four years.
That the former model did not like her life in Washington is nothing new. During the term of her husband Donald Trump, the Slovak has starred in several famous moments, especially those related to her outfits. Although many of her looks have been highly applauded and will go down in history for her elegance, it is also true that others will be remembered for their inappropriate messages that went around the world. These have been the most outstanding 'outfits' of Melania Trump as first lady:
Her first look as a first lady
On the day of the inauguration of her husband, on January 20, 2017, Melania surprised for good with an outfit with sixties airs signed by Ralph Lauren. The Slovakian debuted as first lady in a light blue dress with a high-neck double-breasted jacket that she combined with long gloves and matching court shoes. A look that many interpreted as a nod to Jackie Kennedy.
A historical design
For the inaugural ball after the inauguration of the new president, Melania donned a pretty vanilla design by HervĂ© Pierre. An elegant dress with a strategic ruffle that stylized the figure of the already first lady, which she danced with a smile with Donald to the theme 'My Way'. Months later, the former model donated this piece to the National Museum of American History to be part of the ‘First Ladies’ exhibition, which already has 27 historical outfits.
His first controversy
Melania starred in her first big controversy in May 2017. During her visit to Sicily, Trump wanted to pay tribute to Italian fashion with a Dolce & Gabbana coat with embossed multicolored flowers that was valued at 46,000 euros. A stylistic choice that generated a lot of criticism.
The mantilla of memes
On that same official trip to Italy, the Trumps were received by Pope Francis in Vatican City. A visit that ended up becoming the meat of memes in the networks because of Melania's mantilla placed on top of her head in an inexplicable way and that she combined with a black lace dress.
Inappropriate heels
In August 2017, Melania visited one of the areas most affected by Hurricane Harvey with shoes that were highly criticized. The Slovenian arrived in Florida wearing an army green bomber jacket, 15-centimeter stilettos and aviator glasses. A look with which the disconnection that the first lady had with reality was evidenced.
The gardener costume
After the controversial "stilettos", Melania tried to wash the image of her with a style that is not usual in her. The former model dressed up as a gardener with a Balmain checkered shirt valued at more than 1,000 euros that she paired with Converse sneakers.
The queen of the snow
On her first Christmas at the White House, Trump became the Snow Queen with a spectacular white Dior dress. A design with French sleeves and a flared skirt that she mixed with golden shoes, matching the thin belt with which she marked her waist.
Zara's message jacket
In the summer of 2018 Melania starred in a controversial controversy with a Zara jacket with a controversial message. Amid rumors about an estrangement with her husband, the first lady donned a garment with the phrase on her back: “I really do not care. Do U? " (The truth is that I don't care. You?). A parka that she wore during a visit to a children's shelter in Texas.
The duel with Letizia
On June 19, 2018, the Kings of Spain met with the Trumps at the White House. A highly anticipated meeting, above all, due to the stylistic duel between Melania and Queen Letizia. The first one wore a khaki green dress with a floral print by Valentino and pumps by Manolo Blahnik; while the monarch winked at Melania in a pink Michael Kors dress that Donald Trump's wife had previously worn.
The Beauty of the White House
A few weeks later the first lady became Princess Belle ('Beauty and the Beast') with a striking yellow J.Mendel design. An elegant cape dress that she wore with yellow shoes that gave a lot of play to users of social networks.
The transparencies of 7,000 euros
Melania turned heads at the NATO summit, held in Belgium in July 2018, in a white see-through dress by Elie Saab. A design from the spring-summer 2018 collection that cost almost 7,000 euros and that divided the followers of the first lady.
To the garden with heels
A year after disguising herself as a gardener, the Slovak radically changed her style to plant a tree in the White House garden. She did it with a skirt with a floral print from Valentino that cost 2,700 euros and with some shoes in pale pink, with a 12-centimeter stiletto, from Louboutin. A look with which she certainly did not leave indifferent.
'Memories of Africa'
In October 2018, the first lady of the United States surprised with the outfits chosen for her official trip to Africa. One of the most talked about was the beige and white look with which she posed with the pyramids of Egypt in the background. Melania wore a Ralph Lauren blazer, a Chanel silk shirt with a thin black tie, wide white trousers and the iconic Chanel two-tone ballerinas. A masculine look that she completed with a panama hat.
The leggings with optical effect
In December 2018, Melania accompanied her husband to a surprise visit to American troops in Iraq. Her outfit did not leave indifferent for some Ralph Lauren leather effect leggings that created confusion in the networks. "Are you wearing pants?" was the most repeated question by users, and it is that the optical effect made one think that the first lady only wore a bottle green suede jacket from Prada.
The dress with which she broke schemes
At the congressional ball at the White House in December 2018, Trump left her speechless in a spectacular white Celine dress. A turtleneck design from the spring-summer 2018 collection, signed by Phoebe Philo, that was full of sequins and that fitted perfectly to the waist of the former model.
Is it a Twin Tower?
Another controversy that will go down in history is the coat that the first lady wore in 2019 to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack. Donald and Melania Trump shared on their networks an image in which they posed on their backs, but there was a detail that did not go unnoticed by users: Melania's coat. The former model wore a blue Hervé Pierre garment with white stitching. But the embroidery on the back of the piece reminded more than one of one of the Twin Towers.
The look to defend her husband
In August of last year, Melania entered the electoral campaign to publicly defend the management of her husband. She did it with a military-inspired look signed by Alexander McQueen that the popular account @DietPrada compared to the uniforms worn by fascist leaders. The ensemble consisted of a green jacket with shoulder loops and patch pockets and a pleated pencil skirt. The 'Melania effect' caused the jacket to sell out in record time despite costing more than 1,200 euros.
Her latest look
The last public image of Melania, taken on January 4, did not leave anyone indifferent due to a very unusual look for her. After a few days of vacation in Florida, Trump got off the official plane in an ‘oversize’ coat with a checkered print and flat ankle boots. A change of style for his new life away from politics.
