Joe Biden: Vladimir Putin is a "soulless killer"
- President Vladimir Putin will pay the price for his interference, says US president
In an interview with ABC News, US President Joe Biden called Vladimir Putin a "killer," saying his Russian counterpart will pay the price for his interference in US affairs.
Joe Biden's remarks aired on Wednesday, the day after the release of a U.S. intelligence report backing up allegations in the past that Putin was behind the interference in the 2020 election. accusation already rejected by Russia.
Asked by ABC News' George Stephanopoulos whether he thinks Putin is a "killer," Biden replied, "I believe him."
"You will soon see the price he will pay," he added, referring to the alleged electoral interference.
Biden also said that when he told Putin he believed the Russian leader had no soul, the latter replied, "We understand each other."
This assertion marks a clean break with former President Donald Trump's warm relations with Putin, as well as with the opinion of another Republican president.
At the end of a summit held in 2011 with Putin, then President George W. Bush declared: "I looked the man in the eye, and I found him very direct and worthy of confidence - I was able to get a feel for his soul. "
