Justin Bieber still accused of cultural appropriation: the dreadlocks of discord

Five years after trying dreadlocks, Justin Bieber gave a second chance to this cut historically worn by the black community. The Canadian singer has faced many benevolent comments asking him for more sensitivity on the subject of cultural appropriation.

Some personalities have made history with their hairstyle. The short cut à la Diana, the perm 'of Marilyn Monroe and even the bowl cut with wick à la Justin Bieber. Over time, the boy he was at the start of his career has evolved. Justin has tried many different cuts and hair colors. He now seems to have been around, since he has just unearthed one of his most eccentric ideas: dreadlocks.

Remember, in 2016 already, Justin Bieber tried this cut with a blonde coloring. Some Internet users accused him of cultural appropriation from the black community. On Monday April 26, 2021, the interpreter of Changes unveiled his new dreadlocks. If several of his friends like Jaden Smith were able to compliment him, a good part of Justin Bieber's fans found his dreadlocks particularly disturbing.

"Please educate yourself on cultural appropriation. You shouldn't wear dreads ... With love", "This is cultural appropriation, you know you can do better", " Wasn't it you who said that you were learning about Black culture? ", Can we read among the most popular comments. Indeed, last June, Justin Bieber regretted having "always taken advantage of black culture" in an Instagram publication.

“I am inspired by Black culture. My style, how I sing, dance and dress have all been inspired by Black culture. I am dedicated from today on to using my notoriety to learn, to speak of racial injustice and systemic oppression and to identify what needs to be changed, "said Justin Bieber.

Five years earlier already, in 2016, Justin Bieber was facing this kind of comments after wearing his dreadlocks. He would then sweep away these one-sentence remarks: "Being weird is fun and if you're not weird, I don't love you." Will he have the same speech today?
