Prince Henry returns to UK for Prince Philip's funeral
Prince Harry, whose explosive interview with his wife Meghan plunged the royal family into its greatest crisis in decades, returned to Britain for Prince Philip's funeral on Saturday.
Philip, the husband of Britain's Queen Elizabeth who stood by his side during his 69-year reign, died Friday at Windsor Castle.
Enrique, Felipe's grandson, arrived in London on Saturday from Los Angeles on a British Airways flight, The Sun newspaper reported. Buckingham Palace said Meghan, who is pregnant, will not attend on the advice of her doctor.
Henry, sixth in line to the throne, will serve his quarantine according to coronavirus guidelines in order to attend the funeral at Windsor Castle.
Interviewed by Oprah Winfrey last month, Meghan stated that her pleas for help while she felt suicidal wishes were ignored and that an unidentified family member had questioned how dark the skin of her unborn child would be.
Enrique also regretted his family's reaction to his decision to resign from his official duties and move to Los Angeles.
In response, Queen Elizabeth claimed that royalty was saddened by the challenging experiences of her grandson and Meghan and vowed to deal privately with revelations about a racist comment about her son.
Philip, who died at the age of 99, rests in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle.
"HUGE EMPTY"
On Saturday, the drawer, covered by Philip's banner, a crown, his Navy hat and his sword, will be moved to the state entrance of Windsor Castle by a group of bearers from the Queen's Company, 1st Battalion of Grenadiers of the Guard.
Prince Charles and other members of the royal family will participate in a walking procession behind the cajon, which will be carried by a specially modified Land Rover that Felipe helped design. The 94-year-old queen will not walk in the procession.
When the box reaches St George's Chapel in Windsor, Britain will observe a minute of silence. There will be no funeral processions and the funeral will be held entirely within the grounds of Windsor Castle and will be limited to 30 people, in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions.
A snowstorm hit Windsor Castle on Monday, where Queen Elizabeth reflected on the loss of her husband of 73 years.
Her son, Prince Andrew, said Sunday that the queen was stoic in the face of a loss that she said "left a huge void in her life."
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will watch Prince Philip's funeral on television, a spokesman said on Monday.
