Trump. Each of his escapades to his Mar-a-Lago property costs $ 3.4 million

The American president has a soft spot for his property in Mar-a-Lago: he spends his weekends there regularly. Each trip mobilizes the secret services responsible for its security and army units. The additional costs are estimated at $ 3.4 million, according to a report by the Government Accountability Office.

It’s a bit like our Court of Auditors. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has just released a report on the cost of President Trump's escapades. Nothing new since the GAO has been carrying out such audits since 1997.

At the request of US parliamentarians, the GAO therefore looked into President Trump's Florida travel bill. Rather private trips that allow him to go out to one of his properties and which are the occasion for many rounds of golf.

The figures announced by the GAO, which complained about the lack of cooperation from the federal agencies solicited, relate to the known additional costs (there is a share of data, and therefore of expenditure, confidential, related to the security of POTUS (President Of the United States).

In the report given to members of Congress and dated July 17, it is established that each escapade of Donald Trump to his property in Mar-a-Lago adds some $ 3.4 million to the usual costs (salaries of Secret Service agents , operating costs and travel).

Part of these additional costs are linked to the travel costs of security guards, additional dog teams, deminers, White House officials and the President's office. These additional costs also cover the costs of the vehicles to be transported (including the Presidential Armored Limousine).

Another part of the additional costs is related to the air assets mobilized by the Air Force 89th Air Wing (in charge of the transport of American VIPs), the Presidential Airlift Group and the Marine Helicopter Squadron One.

Who pays ?

The bill ultimately goes to the American taxpayer. But it is first the budgets of two ministries that are being drained.

The first is the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The additional costs are $ 1.25 million, with a very large item for Coast Guard activities ($ 850,000 per trip) and another $ 400,000 for US Secret Services.

The second is Defense (the DoD), which costs $ 2.14 million for each escapade. 1.9 million additional costs are generated by the mobilization of the 89th Air Wing and Air Mobility Command (strategic transport).
