Bill Gates leaves Microsoft board due to relationship with employee
Microsoft executives have shown Bill Gates the door to the board of directors due to an intimate relationship with an employee.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the board began an investigation in 2019 into a woman's allegations of having sex with Bill Gates. The businessman's spokeswoman said his departure from the board in 2020 was unrelated to this investigation.
The US daily reports, however, that members of Microsoft's board decided to remove its founder last year while they continued their investigation into a relationship that was deemed inappropriate.
The board members were given a mandate to hire a law firm to investigate a woman's allegations in 2019. The company engineer said in a letter that she had had a relationship for a year with the man from business.
During the investigation, some members questioned the presence of Bill Gates on the board of directors.
Before the investigation ended, the businessman resigned.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Bill Gates would have sought to initiate an intimate relationship with an employee in 2000.
“A board committee looked into the issue with the help of an outside law firm. Throughout the investigation, Microsoft provided full support to the employee who raised the issue, ”said the spokesperson for the company.
Bill Gates' clan answered questions from the American daily.
"There was an intimate relationship twenty years ago that ended amicably," said the spokesperson for the Microsoft founder.
