Bill & Melinda Gates Divorce After 27 Years of Marriage, The Reason?
The founder of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates decided to divorce from his wife Melinda. He announced the divorce after 27 years of being married.
Bill (65) and Melinda (56) expressed it directly on personal Twitter @BillGates on Monday (4/5/2021). But unfortunately the reasons for his divorce were not explained.
"We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin our new life," the couple said on Twitter, quoted Tuesday (4/5/2021).
Previously, the super rich couple said they decided to divorce after long thoughts and efforts to maintain the relationship. Moreover, both of them have three children.
Despite their divorce, the two will continue their work at the charity Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The agency funds a number of programs including global health, gender equality and education.
"We continue to share our faith in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation," both said.
Bill and Melinda started knitting a love story since meeting at Microsoft. Melinda joined Microsoft as product manager in 1987. The two, quoted by BBC International, were sitting together at a business dinner in New York at the time.
"We really care about each other and there are only two possibilities ... we will break up or get married," Gates said as he recounted when the two started dating,
Melinda even said she found Bill writing a list on the board with "pros and cons of being married." Despite going through a lot, the two married in 1994 on the island of Lanai in Hawaii.
Last year, Bill Gates resigned from Microsoft's board to focus on his philanthropic activities. Now both are estimated to have a net worth of around US $ 130 billion or around Rp.1878 trillion.
