Brad Pitt obtained joint custody of his children
The decision comes almost five years after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt divorced in 2016. This is how the fair custody of their children is officiated in a private setting and not in court.
A California judge awarded the American actor Brad Pitt joint custody of his children in the divorce proceedings with fellow actress Angelina Jolie, who claimed sole custody, several US media reported on Wednesday.
Neither the lawyers for the two actors nor Brad Pitt's press agent responded to AFP's inquiries.
The decision, issued by retired judge John Ouderkirk, who officiates in a private setting and not in court, validates the principle of fair custody, according to celebrity news site TMZ.
The decision comes almost five years after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016. The actress took legal action to obtain the dismissal of the judge in the case, a process that is still ongoing.
The decision affects five of the six children of the ex-partner. The case of Maddox Jolie-Pitt (19), now of legal age, can be appealed in civil justice.
Pitt and Jolie have not been officially married since April 2019, but they have not yet resolved the property division.
In 2018, the two Hollywood stars reached a temporary agreement for joint custody of their children, in terms that remained confidential, but could not agree on a permanent formula.
The FBI launched an investigation after an incident reported by TMZ and that would have taken place in September 2016. During a plane trip, Brad Pitt allegedly assaulted his children verbally and physically.
At the end of their investigations, the US federal police decided not to initiate any prosecution.
Considered the most glamorous couple in Hollywood for a decade, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were officially together from 2005 to 2016. They had three biological children together and Brad Pitt adopted Maddox, Pax and Zahara.
