DEATH OF PRINCE PHILIP: WHO ARE THE CHOIRS WHO SING AT THE FUNERAL?

The songs were provided by a choir of four. The music had been selected by the Duke of Edinburgh himself.

No guest singing at Prince Philip's funeral. It was one of the measures announced ahead of the ceremony, which took place this Saturday afternoon at Saint-George's Chapel, in order to respect anti-Covid rules. Indeed, no member of the royal family has sung a religious song. Instead, it was a choir of four - three men, one woman - that resonated songs in homage to the Duke of Edinburgh throughout the funeral at Windsor Castle.

Three of the four are members of the St. George's Chapel choir, the BBC reports. They were led by James Vivian, director of music for the chapel. The organ was played by Luke Bond, the latter's assistant.

Religious songs and national anthem

As stated by CNN, the sung pieces were selected by the Duke of Edinburgh, who died on April 9 at the age of 99. We could hear Jubilate in C by composer Benjamin Britten as well as an adaptation of Psalm 104, set to music by William Lovelady at the request of Prince Philip. It had already been sung when it was 75 years old.

The funeral ended with a performance of the national anthem, God Save the Queen, by the four singers.

At the end of the ceremony, Prince Philip's coffin was lowered into the royal vault. He will remain there until the death of the queen. He will then be moved to his side in the chapel where George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, parents of Elizabeth II are buried.
