Gigi Hadid puts an Islamophobic journalist in her place
The model has responded on Twitter to a journalist who made hateful comments towards the Muslim community
The model Gigi Hadid has used her enormous influence on social networks (more than 7 million followers) to side with the Muslim community, a social minority that in the United States deals with hostility daily, even more so since the Trump administration to lift an immigration veto against the people of some countries, including several with a Muslim majority. She has done it by putting on her site a journalist who has not stopped pouring a series of Islamophobic comments on her timeline.
It occurred as a result of the attack that shook New York on Halloween, leaving eight dead and eleven injured, when a 29-year-old young man committed a massive outrage in Manhattan, according to CNN, "in the name of ISIS." As a result of this, the journalist Laura Loomer, found it appropriate to formulate a series of tweets with a manifestly Islamophobic bias: “Muslims are in the street in full force at the scene of the ISIS attack in New York rubbing it in our faces. Wandering around in hijabs ”. And she continued with more hateful tweets against the Muslim community: “You would think they would have the decency not to go around in hijab on the street of the attack. But not. They are sure to be delighted with this. "
Faced with such a serious verbal attack by a (in principle) information professional, the model Gigi Hadid, who also professes the Muslim religion, has seen it necessary to respond with the forcefulness that she deserves. So she responded to Loomer in a tweet: "Laura, I hate paying attention to you, but I need to tell you: you are a fucking asshole." A tweet that already goes for 46 thousand retweets and 164 thousand likes, with which she puts not only Loomer on her site, but also the whole tide of disinformation and hatred that circulates through networks every time a terrorist attack of this type.
Laura, I hate to give you the attention, but I need to tell you- You're a f**king moron. https://t.co/fCezijj2Ao

It is not the first time that Gigi and her sister Bella Hadid have shown an active attitude against segregation. Both participated in the demonstration against Trump's immigration veto and have been open when it comes to commenting on the way they live their religion together with their father in interviews they have given to various media. A small gesture that does, however, much more than it seems when it comes to combating the negative stigmas of a community that simultaneously fights terrorism (according to the Global Terrorism Database, 87% of the countries that have been victims of jihadist attacks since the year 2,000 are Muslim majority) and social alienation.
